We can’t believe it is over so soon but Hill Valley breathed a sigh of sadness today as the town returned to its usual self. The Fair has been and gone, as have the thousands of visitors who arrived from across the state but wow, what a marvelLous Fair it was.

It is difficult to pinpoint what made this year’s Fair the greatest that has ever been. Perhaps it was the parade, hundreds of Hill Valley students and professionals marched proudly through the town. Or maybe it was the incredible animal stock displayed by Peabody farm, those sheep and chickens really did make the kids hoot with laughter. The rides were certainly popular, as those whose legs were tired could take to the sky on the ferris wheel or flying chairs. Or perhaps the contagious spirit of all the shop keepers as they showed off their wares and produce. The dancing was certainly a hit, as those who went for a drink soon found themselves jiving away to the newest tunes but what really made the Fair? We decided to ask the Mayor.

In an interview with the Hill Valley Telegraph, our Mayor disclosed what he believed was the Fair’s highlights. “There is no doubt about it, this year’s Hill Valley Fair was the greatest ever. The Hill Valley Fair has always been a spectacular event but what really made it special this year was that everyone was involved. Whether you were a local or from a completely different place, you embraced Hill Valley, everyone was part of our special town. I also thought the food was particularly good this year, Lou’s Café improves with every bite I take.”

We at the HVT are looking forward to the Hill Valley Fair 1956, only a year to wait!

What made your Fair special? Write in and tell us about your experiences.

Prom is an important part of our high school life and it is also educational. For many young men it is the first time...

Prom is an important part of our high school life and it is also educational. For many young men it is the first time they ask a girl on a date. This can be a very overwhelming concept and instead of biting the bullet and asking the girl they have fancied throughout the whole of high school to the dance, the young man in question either avoids prom altogether or has to watch an awful jock dance the night away with his lady.

We at the Hill Valley Telegraph decided it was important to give a helping hand. So here it is:
1. Try and make sure the girl of your dreams is alone when you ask her to prom. Maybe wait till she is by her locker in between class (this also means you can make a quick escape if it goes wrong).
2. Stride up to her, it is okay to seem a little nervous but girls are attracted to confidence so make sure your walk oozes self-belief.
3. Smile.
4. Don’t beat around the bush. Instead of saying ‘do you want to dance for a bit at the prom’ say ‘would you like to go to prom with me?’
5. The ideal conversation should go: ‘Hey, how are you? I was just wondering if you wanted to go to prom with me?’ ideally she will then reply: “sure, I would love to’.
6. Good luck and remember even if she says no you won’t have lost anything. Keep your head high and smile.

Twenty years ago Michael Fromaz and Laura Croe were preparing for their high school prom. They were eighteen, had been together for four years...

Twenty years ago Michael Fromaz and Laura Croe were preparing for their high school prom. They were eighteen, had been together for four years and they had their whole lives ahead of them. However, unlike every other student they were not looking forward to the prom, as prom was to be the last day of their relationship.

Michael Fromaz was moving with his family to Australia the day after prom and Laura had secured a job as an assistant at Ruth’s Frock Shop. So as they danced their last dance, tears streaked the couple’s cheeks… They thought they would never dance together again. The couple kept in contact for a year but eventually it ceased. Three years later Michael went looking for the girl who had stolen his heart but was unable to find her. Laura’s family had moved out of Hill Valley and she was no longer working at Ruth’s Frock Shop. Eventually Michael gave up on his search and started a new life.

Meanwhile Laura was living in Los Angeles with her new husband, Derek and was two months pregnant. Laura went on to have three children with Derek and was happily married until a year ago Derek had a terrible accident and died. In a bid to re-root herself, Laura moved with her children back to Hill Valley and when she was asked to help with the fair she agreed.

Michael was still in Australia when he received a letter from an old classmate suggesting he returned to Hill Valley for the Hill Valley Fair and he booked his return that afternoon. Laura was in the middle of decorating the High School Hall when she felt a tap on her shoulder. “I was really annoyed actually,” Laura told the Hill Valley Telegraph. “I had nearly managed to reach the hook on the wall when I felt a tap on my shoulder and nearly fell but then I saw who it was and I just…” Laura’s eyes watered as she relayed her emotions. “I just, I’d been thinking about him for the last twenty years. I never forgot him.”

“When I saw her there, I just couldn’t help myself. I wanted to just grab her and kiss her and never let her go,” Michael said. “So much time had passed but she was still my Laura.” The high school sweethearts are very looking forward to dancing together once again at prom and are planning on getting married in a months time.

“Once I saw her I knew. I knew I should never have left her. I realised she was the girl I had always wanted, always needed and the one I couldn’t live without.”

Another happy story from Hill Valley. Have you got any prom stories you would like to share? If so contact the Hill Valley Telegraph.

In advance of the upcoming Hill Valley fair, Texaco’s very own singing six part harmony group The Texatones have been practicing their vocal parts and polishing their dance moves, reports Nikki Cruse.

“We’re all very excited for the upcoming fair,” said Texaco owner and Hill Valley resident Mr Anderson. “Our Texaco boys are sure to do us proud and show this beautiful town that our service really is the very best – our men will be wearing the Texaco stars with pride!”

Alongside long serving Texaco employee Brad there are new additions to the line up in Edmund Turner, David Munoz, Patrick Williams and John Shaw. The ‘Tones are preparing to wow the crowds before the Hill Valley Parade with smooth vocal stylings and sharp uniforms – you might want to watch your ladies, fellas.

So join the ranks of those who know, and fill your tanks with Texaco!

The Hill Valley parade might seem like the most exciting thing to hit the states this year, but 1955 has seen its fair share...

The Hill Valley parade might seem like the most exciting thing to hit the states this year, but 1955 has seen its fair share of amazing events already. Walt Disney’s “Disneyland” opened its doors on July 17 in Anaheim, California to a special list of invited guests and the media. 28,000 people attended the event. The park resort consists of a theme park featuring twenty attractions, a 100-acre (40 ha) parking lot, and the Disneyland Hotel. During the first public opening day (July 18) 50,000 guests attended. We wonder what Mayor Thomas would make of that!

The park itself is made up of themed areas including Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland and among the attractions are Mark Twain Steamboat and Peter Pan’s Flight. In Tomorrowland, which sounds by far the most exciting area, you can ride through Autopia and even Rocket to the Moon (what a fantastic thought!).

Here at the Telegraph we wish him all the best with such an extravagant venture, though we’re confident it won’t be half as exciting as our very own Hill Valley fair. Pop into the office on the day and let us know what you think.

After opening its doors to the public, Courthouse Square and the surrounding area has seen a flurry of activity and pop-up events, with shops and restaurants welcoming any and everyone keen to experience the good old-fashioned hospitality Hill Valley has to offer. Since the Mayor’s expansion plans kicked in which saw the launch of the Hill Valley Telephone Exchange programme, TV and radio channels and Peabody’s Twin Pines farmyard party, we’ve received mail from hundreds of happy Americans all keen to share their experiences.

We can’t wait for the next few weeks, as we welcome even more of the community into our offices and living rooms all in the name of having a good time. Pop in to see The Telegraph when you’re next in town, and let us know what you think.

Earlier in the week, Mayor “Red” Thomas confirmed his decision to re-run as city mayor in the upcoming election. Over the weekend his team took to the streets of Hill Valley to broadcast the winning slogan “Red Thomas, progress is his middle name”. He also revealed plans to tackle issues of unemployment and over-zealous taxation, setting his sights on “More Jobs, Better Education, Lower Taxes.” In more immediate news, the current Mayor has been channelling most of his time into the upcoming Hill Valley Fair and parade, which he claims will be the most extravagant and exciting this town has ever seen.

“Prepare your best smiles and clean up your yard,” Mayor Red Thomas advises, as the biggest fair in the history of Hill Valley looms...

“Prepare your best smiles and clean up your yard,” Mayor Red Thomas advises, as the biggest fair in the history of Hill Valley looms ever closer.

In recent days preparations have begun to transform our sleepy farming town, Hill Valley, into a setting capable of welcoming 20,000 visitors. In a previously unprecedented turn of events our town’s annual fair appears to have taken on a life of it’s own, visitors from far and wide are planning on attending and Mayor Thomas wants to make sure we are all prepared.

“Hill Valley’s Fair has been notorious amongst residents for decades but never before has it received such hype from the rest of the state,” Mayor Red Thomas told a Hill Valley Telegraph reporter.

The massive crowd will be in part due to the Town Squares iconic Clock Tower’s 70th anniversary. “The Clock Tower is part of our history, it’s part of who we are as Hill Valley locals. Of course people want to celebrate,” Mary Thompson a resident of the town told the Hill Valley Telegraph.

The upcoming elections mean that mayoral candidates have a chance to demonstrate their plans to get our little town on the map. Current Mayor Red Thomas has declared his intention to make this the “biggest fair Hill Valley has ever seen”, setting up the town’s first ever tourism program and working with the local community on a number of in-store events.

Throughout the day shops and residents from across town will be throwing open their doors to visitors. Curious Californians from all over the state are expected to attend the celebrations, which will culminate in an “Enchantment-Under-the-Sea” themed parade. Activities are expected to start mid-afternoon, with Otis Peabody, the area’s most prominent landowner (and keen pine farmer) announcing plans to open the Twin Pines ranch to all guests of the fair. The Peabody family is known for their rare and much-anticipated parties that usually revolve around tractor demonstrations, livestock beauty awards, and live music. The main draw of the fair however, will certainly be the parade, which will march through town towards Courthouse Square and the beloved clock tower.

The Square’s shops will be opening their shutters to thousands of customers, which should soon become a regular occurrence due to the large number of new developments planned for the area. Still, while Hill Valley welcomes new infrastructure on a massive scale, locals are also helping to support long-standing shops. The grand re-opening of old favorite the Hill Valley Stores from July 11th, which includes outlets of Ruth’s Frock Shop and Roys Records, is a good omen for the town’s close-knit community. The store will be open to shoppers Thursday through Sunday. For more information on the store’s opening hours, the fair and parade or Hill Valley in general, visitors are advised to check ‘The Department of Social Services noticeboard’.
