Normally we hear ‘The bigger the better’ but it appears that is not the case for the size of radios. Roy’s Records reported to The Hill Valley Telegraph today that ‘The Word’s Smallest Radios’ (aka ‘Runabout’) have been flying off the shelves in store; in fact Roy’s Records have already had to restock the new technology.

“We have been very excited over here at Roy’s for the arrival of Motorola’s ‘Runabout’, which landed in store last week.”

“We have been very excited over here at Roy’s for the arrival of Motorola’s ‘Runabout’, which landed in store last week.” The ‘Runabout’ as it has been named, due to it’s portable casing and lightweight, comes in 5 different colors and can travel with you absolutely anywhere, due to it’s 100+ hours of battery life. Whether it’s down to the beach or up at the creek, the smaller model works surprisingly well on the go.

“It seemed hardly possible that something so small could deliver any kind of sound worth tuning into, but the powerful channels pull in stations loud and clear and manages to hold the sound real steady, just as good as if you were plugged in at home. The kids in Hill Valley are going crazy for these. If you’re interested then step on it before they all get snapped up,” Roy’s Record’s spokesman told our reporter. “Come and have a listen next time you roll into Roy’s for your slides.”

Earlier in the week, Mayor “Red” Thomas confirmed his decision to re-run as city mayor in the upcoming election. Over the weekend his team took to the streets of Hill Valley to broadcast the winning slogan “Red Thomas, progress is his middle name”. He also revealed plans to tackle issues of unemployment and over-zealous taxation, setting his sights on “More Jobs, Better Education, Lower Taxes.” In more immediate news, the current Mayor has been channelling most of his time into the upcoming Hill Valley Fair and parade, which he claims will be the most extravagant and exciting this town has ever seen.

Willing test subjects for a series of experiments in telepathy and temporal displacement. Must agree to partake in what some might condemn as extremely dangerous and unusual activity. Must also have mental capacity to comprehend ideas others dismiss as ludicrous. An understanding or interest in the late Albert Einstein’s work on particle theory and quantum physics would be a bonus. Subjects may be expected to handle transuranic radioactive chemicals; strap pieces of electrical equipment to themselves (namely the cranium) and undergo tests of mental stamina throughout the proceedings. In return, subjects may well find themselves at the forefront of 1950′s scientific discovery. Residents of Hill Valley only.

Your home may not survive the force of an atomic bomb, but you and your family can. The government has now approved a variety of home bomb shelters, which could save you and your families lives. While the effects of the Cold War might seem a world away from Hill Valley, it’s important to remember that tensions are still running high. We are now in the fifth year of Senator Joseph Mccarthy’s programme, which was designed to drive the Reds out of television, radio and Hollywood. However, there are still communist ploys being unearthed and Mccarthy believes they may run as deep into government as the CIA.

Still, while the good citizens of America take it into their own hands to search out the ‘internationalists’ in our midst, the standoff overseas is becoming increasingly fraught. Despite good old Eisenhower’s rally for peace, it is imperative we take precautions for our future. Although the most elaborate of the five government-approved home bomb shelters could set you back $3,000, the F.H.A are now offering loans for practical self built atom bomb shelters that only cost $20. So, for the price of a television you could get two life saving shelters installed in your home.

Keeping your family safe should probably take priority over keeping up with Jackie Gleeson. If you’re in the market for saving lives, you should first clean out the cellar, as these simple wooden lean-tos have been designed for building at least five feet below ground (having been successfully tested in Yucca Flats). The bomb shelters have been constructed similarly to a Boy Scout shelter, the eight-foot wooden square is designed to comfortably fit four people, including rations. For the full guide and further information pick up a copy of the F.C.D.A’s pamphlet ‘Home Shelters’ from Hill Valley town hall. Stay safe and contact the F.H.A today to begin the all-important dig in!

The wheels of progress are turning, as Otis Peabody’s plans to extend Hill Valley have been accepted. Mr. Peabody asked for permission to extend the town into hundreds of acres of land that is currently part of the Twin Pines Ranch. Signs for new developments have begun to appear across the farmland, the most significant of which being Lyon Estates, incorporating the East Village E20 housing development, which promises to deliver “The houses of tomorrow… Today!”. The project, which is located on a now vacant plot of Peabody’s Twin Pines Ranch, will provide modern housing for future residents of the growing town. Housing in Hill Valley is a valuable commodity after the success of the “Move to Hill Valley” tourism programme, launched by Mayor Red Thomas earlier this year. Families and professionals from all across America will proudly be making Hill Valley their home as the plan kicks into full force this fall. With major developments like this one afoot, there’s no question the town is speeding headfirst into the future and Hill Valley is certain to remain a “Nice Place to Live” for the residents of tomorrow as well as today.

“Prepare your best smiles and clean up your yard,” Mayor Red Thomas advises, as the biggest fair in the history of Hill Valley looms...

“Prepare your best smiles and clean up your yard,” Mayor Red Thomas advises, as the biggest fair in the history of Hill Valley looms ever closer.

In recent days preparations have begun to transform our sleepy farming town, Hill Valley, into a setting capable of welcoming 20,000 visitors. In a previously unprecedented turn of events our town’s annual fair appears to have taken on a life of it’s own, visitors from far and wide are planning on attending and Mayor Thomas wants to make sure we are all prepared.

“Hill Valley’s Fair has been notorious amongst residents for decades but never before has it received such hype from the rest of the state,” Mayor Red Thomas told a Hill Valley Telegraph reporter.

The massive crowd will be in part due to the Town Squares iconic Clock Tower’s 70th anniversary. “The Clock Tower is part of our history, it’s part of who we are as Hill Valley locals. Of course people want to celebrate,” Mary Thompson a resident of the town told the Hill Valley Telegraph.

The upcoming elections mean that mayoral candidates have a chance to demonstrate their plans to get our little town on the map. Current Mayor Red Thomas has declared his intention to make this the “biggest fair Hill Valley has ever seen”, setting up the town’s first ever tourism program and working with the local community on a number of in-store events.

Throughout the day shops and residents from across town will be throwing open their doors to visitors. Curious Californians from all over the state are expected to attend the celebrations, which will culminate in an “Enchantment-Under-the-Sea” themed parade. Activities are expected to start mid-afternoon, with Otis Peabody, the area’s most prominent landowner (and keen pine farmer) announcing plans to open the Twin Pines ranch to all guests of the fair. The Peabody family is known for their rare and much-anticipated parties that usually revolve around tractor demonstrations, livestock beauty awards, and live music. The main draw of the fair however, will certainly be the parade, which will march through town towards Courthouse Square and the beloved clock tower.

The Square’s shops will be opening their shutters to thousands of customers, which should soon become a regular occurrence due to the large number of new developments planned for the area. Still, while Hill Valley welcomes new infrastructure on a massive scale, locals are also helping to support long-standing shops. The grand re-opening of old favorite the Hill Valley Stores from July 11th, which includes outlets of Ruth’s Frock Shop and Roys Records, is a good omen for the town’s close-knit community. The store will be open to shoppers Thursday through Sunday. For more information on the store’s opening hours, the fair and parade or Hill Valley in general, visitors are advised to check ‘The Department of Social Services noticeboard’.

It’s that time again, as the graduating students of Hill Valley High School pick out their prettiest dresses and iron their smartest shirts for senior prom. This year’s theme is Enchantment-Under-The-Sea, but that doesn’t mean you should turn up in a bathing suit and cap. Here at Ruth’s Frock Shop we know finding the perfect pair of earrings or bow-tie can leave you in a bit of a bind, so we suggest heading down to the grand re-opening of Hill Valley Store for the best outfit options in town. Check back to ‘The Department of Social Services noticeboard’ for more information on store opening times.

Read on for Ruth’s failsafe fashion advice:

Forget corsages, the must-wear prom accessory for all you 1955 school leavers is the watch. Whether you’re swinging yours out of a jacket pocket or polishing it up to wear on your wrist, everybody in the know will be rocking around the clock on Saturday night.

It’s hot in Hill Valley, so why not show off your sunniest side in a yellow dress? If yellow’s not your thing, match yourself to the fruit punch and go for something peachy

Don’t get in a sweat if you’re wearing a hand-me-down gown, just dress it up with some bright earrings. Embellished flowers can work on your handbag too, just make sure you’re not too weighed down with gems to jitterbug!

Whether you’re subterranean or a total square, don’t let a hair fall out of place. Slick on a good dose of Vaseline hair tonic to keep everything in order, or better yet, book yourself in at Hill Valley’s own Elite Salons. Just be warned, we’ve heard one flick of a cigarette and you’ll end up the wrong kind of flaming hot.

Marvin Berry and the Starlighters, pictured above, will be heading to Hill Valley High School next Saturday for the Enchantment-Under-the-Sea dance, singing their much loved hit “Earth Angel”. The Starlighters, famed for their doo-wop harmonies and pleasant onstage presence were approved by Principle Strickland who claims to be relieved the prom committee have steered clear of booking one of the more provocative musical groups doing the circuit at the moment. The absence of “girating devil worshippers” as Strickland refers to the surge of Rock’n’Roll bands heading the charts, “is just what we need to maintain within the youth culture of Hill Valley to ensure we don’t let it become a town of no-good slackers and punks”. His strong sentiments may be lost on some, according to local record storeowner Roy Ritchie, who claims kids have been going ape for the new R’n’B and Rock’n’Roll sides in stock ever since Bill Haley’s hit “Rock Around the Clock” topped the Billboard Magazine Pop Charts.

What’s more, Marvin Berry and his group have been causing quite a stir in Hill Valley over the past month for their connection to Marvin’s brother, artist Chuck Berry, who has just landed a contract with Chess Records. His up-tempo new tune, Maybelline, has been whipping young music fans into quite the frenzy. Concerns have cropped up over the rampant roll of rebellious music from other new young fireballs such as Louisiana Hayride star, Elvis Presley. The singer, along with aforementioned Haley, is purportedly who all the cool cats of Hill Valley are getting cranked up about. The uninhibited nature of this new genre sweeping the country is, according to some, an assault on real American values, but it looks as if these swinging Joe’s can’t be stopped! Regardless, Strickland says he is supremely confident in his assurance that the dance will go off without a hitch, and run smooth as ever with no unruly mishaps. And no mention of “Rock ‘n Roll” whatsoever.

Are any of you seniors out there suffering from a case of two left feet? Don’t resign yourself to being a lonely wallflower just yet. Rumor has it secret dancing lessons will be taking place at an undisclosed location in Hill Valley. So don’t worry, you’ve got plenty of opportunity to brush up on your jumping and jiving.
